# Coilover Adjustment + Alignment

Hey Darryl,
I just installed my BC Racing coilovers today (holy crap what a PITA - I’ve never dealt with so many stubborn/rusted bolts/nuts in my life - even air tools were useless).
Problem I have is, I got the fronts adjusted pretty well (I think) - 2 finger gap between the wheel well and the tire or around 27.5" from wheel well to ground - but I can’t for the life of me get the rears to make any significant movement. It’s slammed in the rear. I had to use a jack to lift the ass end up just to get the car off my lift.
I’m going to call you guys on Monday, but in case you see this before…can you give me a quote (and schedule an appt ASAP) for the following:
1. Adjust suspension to be about 27-27.5" from wheel well(s) to ground. This equals about a 2 finger gap.
2. The front, if I turn right or left all the way, towards the end of the turn will do a metal ‘pop’. I’m not sure what this is? As said below, maybe strut bearing?
3. Schedule an alignment for the future (once the suspension settles I’ve been told)
I don’t go on here much anymore, so if anything, I’ll talk to you guys on Monday.

I think the pop might be the bearings not seated correctly.

Hmmm…why would they be out of whack? They don’t make noise while driving…only for a split second at one point when I turn. Once I go past that point, I can continue to turn and it’s quiet…

That’s what strut bearings do they only rotate while turning and pop while binding… You seem to have a issue that should be taken care of more than just ride height…

I setup a time with Darryl for tomorrow to get it looked at.
Here is how the car sits right now…trying to get the front another smidge lower and the back up to match the front.

I’ll be stopping in to see you guys shortly. After putting in the taller struts / springs on the STi, I was able to get my alignment ‘close’ by using a cheap HF magnetic angle finder (with the car sitting on the ground, I am getting exactly 90\* on all 4 corners) but once I get the final tires and let the springs settle a bit I will be in to get a real alignment.

For the noise?
My pre-load was off. Spring was moving when turning. I adjusted both sides and driver side is silent now so I just need to tighten the passenger side up some more.
But, I was definitely not adjusting the height right so ASS helped me with that.

By adjusting the spring perch collar (my springs are separate from the shock) in the rear. Turns out, had to center the shock and adjust that.
Fronts I would have been okay with adjusting myself, but I had ASS do all four corners.
First time using coilovers so…n00b status on adjusting.

Center the shock and adjust that? The fuck? The shock length adjusts preload, you were adjusting correctly by adjusting the spring perch but probably not doing it correctly or not enough.
