Anyone ever use something other than air to cool an IC.

I’m thinking CO2, nitrogen, NOS, or even fast evaporating alcohol.

co2 is cheapest… go with that… !!!

alcohol doesn’t really cool as good as water even… quicker evap = less heat diss.

I saw a post on a Buick website suggesting dry ice, I was curious if it would be worth the effort. Any real gain to be had?

i was looking into that not to long ago go do a search on [turbobuick.com](http://turbobuick.com) … i was looking in to C02 looks kinda pricey ($500?) for what you need unless you make something homemade… i dunno how effective it, apperently it works well on imports but i dunno? search for C02 on [eastwood.com](http://eastwood.com) it will bring up a kit. there is another site to i found on [turbobuick.com](http://turbobuick.com) that has a kit also… hth. Instead i went to home depot made my own dual front CAI and got a power plate, and i just got back from peaking 20 psi with no knock on 94 octane. good luck!

I’ve been looking into Co2 for awhile now, especially in the summer heat. They sell kits for like $400, but if you buy your own 5 lb bottle($80) then you can fabricate the rest of the kit for pretty cheap, you just need some bottons, boost switch, nitrous solonoid, and a bar with holes in it or something to dispense the stuff onto the intercooler. Its supposed to give you something like 20-30 hp at the wheels on a warm day, I couldn’t tell you if there is anything to those numbers but i’ve had alot of experience with Co2 and i know it will help. I’ll probably be setting my own up once i finish my exhaust and get some struts.

…buddy’s STI came stock with a lead from his windshield washer reservoir that goes up his hood to the hood scoop and sprays it right into the path of the forced air directly through the IC

this setup can be done for under 30 dollars

You just have to watch that the C02 doesn’t get drawn into your intake. I think it would be more of a problem if you’re on the dyno than on the highway. Sometimes the reason people see such a big gain w/ the nitrous sprayed intercoolers is because some of it is getting sucked into the intake too.

i think it would be a bigger problem if your IC has a hole in it sucking shit from outside… nos = easy to ignite = not good idea to spray in engine bay.

I guess if your air intake was directly behind your intercooler you’d get some, but not much. I sure wouldn’t want pure NO2 being sucked into my boosted motor. Unless I tuned for it.

let me know if ur interested in the homemade setup… i can post pictures of an example that i have sitting up in my room

its a small reservoir with built in pump, lines, jets and T’s to branch off the water lines for more spray points

yeah man… let me see… i have a water spray setup, but am currently looking to buy / make a halo for a FM and run co2

just for fun, not really beacuse i think i’ll gain much…

I’ll be building one soon…Co2 on the intercooler…Maybe a little NO2 to the motor(wet system to cool even more). :eek4:

install a NO2 system on your car and put a purge on it to spray the IC

only problem is you really can only hit the purge before your spraying to the motor

NO.

n2o will sustain a fire or slightly burn
co2 will extingish a fire

so for saftey / money’s sake… go with co2

Cram a midget under your hood to blow on the IC…

actually, I’d go with some kind of windshield washer type setup… is there a liquid that might work better than H2O?
