I wish I didn’t have to do this trip in January. Just did it…took 5 days. Buffalo, Nashville, New Orleans, Austin, El Paso, San Diego. My car won’t move in an inch of snow so I had to avoid the mountains completely. My most interesting notes: Driving all day and then partying at night sucks the next day. Alabama and Mississippi suck just as much as you think they would Texas is literally 1000 miles end to end. Once you get past San Antonio it’s 500 miles of NOTHING. Exits every 50 miles, 80 MPH speed limit, naturally that was where I blew a tire at 100 MPH. Nashville, New Orleans, and Austin are all amazing towns, especially if you dig live music. I-10 is really fucking long. Gas is very cheap in the whole south. From Kentucky through Arizona I never paid over $2 a gallon for 93. ---

Yeah the midwest looks/sounds boring so I have no problem boogying through there. How many hours would you drive roughly in a day before stopping for the night? I’m thinking a solid 2 weeks it can be done at a relaxed pace. especially if we haul through the boring parts. ---

It’s more about the people you ride with and the interactions with the locals. Even getting locked in a portapotty can be hilarious when you’ve biked 70 miles that day. GAP-C&O trail (Pitt-\> DC) was fun. You can even do it on a single speed! I think I might bike the Erie Canal the week of July 4th. Perhaps Florida around Christmas. Not sure about Ragbrai – I’m not a huge fan of crowds, but I have a few friends that do it. I’m hoping I can find that balance soon. I know i’m doing the right things LONG term, but I need to have fun, too. This would be amazing to do.
