adam, stop pulling numbers out of your ass.

I’m sorry, but I really don’t see the reason to run more dampening. When you are running 0 dampening, not only will your prolong the life of your suspension, but you will also have some suspension travel. It will still be stiff because of the spring rate, and it will still be street drivable.

I do realize that for track people will need to run a bit more dampening, but don’t just pull numbers out of your ass saying that the set-up works. It may work for you, but may not work at all for anyone else. How did you calculate those numbers anyway? Do you have reasoning behind them?

I agree with Bob, let people figure out their own set-ups, because at 4 full turns in the front with 6kg spring rate, you basically don’t have any suspension.

run 6 in front and 6 in the rear, I know because I have done 8 sr swaps.

Wow, I love all this hatred just because I’m trying to help a few people out.

I just gave a suggestion on dampening rates on what I though
was a good setup, if they don’t like it it’s not like I’m holding a
knife to their throat and telling them to keep it that way. :?

Andrew for 9/7 spring’s on D2’s I personally haven’t tried them
so I wouldn’t know what would be best to start off on so I
recommend a large parking lot, some pylons, and a pad of paper…

Sorry Pavel I didn’t know it was possible to actually pull numbers out of ones ass?

Soften the shocks all the way, then stiffen until the car is no longer bouncy. The car should absorb bumps while cornering without getting upset and should not bounce after bumps.

if your bouncing your damper is too soft or your preload is too soft.

D2s adjust bound and rebound at the same time, so you cant independently adjust it but i can tell most people dont need this anyways.

BTW what would a pad of paper achieve?

Well, aside from all the brew-ha-ha of D2s, I would like to know exactly
to look for in determing the proper settings. As suggested of getting
a parking lot, some pylons and a pad of paper, what exactly is needed
and observed?

After taking the D2s out of the box, I preloaded the springs as Adam
showed in his picture. (7-3/8" from top of coil to bottom of first top collar).
As well I have my dampening on 3/2.

So far the ride has been bouncy bouncy but not harsh. I have yet to
rape the car on corners, but on the few that I have taken, it feels very
good, and very responsive.

I seem to take everyone’s advice with a grain of salt, mainly because I
don’t know what’s good from the beginning. I’ve talked to Bing, Andrew,
Bob and Adam, and so far I have put my D2s on after talking to them
about how to adjust and set the coilovers.

</div>

As much as I like to shit disturb, I think adam’s figures would be a
good ballpark figure to start with and go from there, if you experience
too much oversteer, u may want to consider increasing the damnpening on the front/ilowering it on the rear. If you get too much understeer,
you should the dampening on the front/increase it in the rear.

Same preload?

Do you know what preload is and does?

Preload is is how much tension you apply to the spring when its under no load.

The greater the preload the stiffer the spring tension.

</div>

So Philip or Bob why is my car now bouncier in the rear after I lessened the preload?

The way I saw/felt it was the greater the preload the stiffer it gets?

</div>

There is stiff bouncy where it bounces alot but the travel is minimum

Then there is soft bouncy where it still bounces alot but the travel is increased.

What I ment is the frequency of the bounces is less but the travel of the bounce is more.

Thus, a softer feeling and the car roll’s more…

That’s how I came up with the Idea of Pre-Load changes stifness.

It does matter now because my rear end is all sloppy and bouncy.

I want to get it to the same way I had it with the Greater Preload but keep it at the height I have it now.

Yeah, On stock Allseasons it doesnt do anything at all.

I’ll leave it the way it is for now untill I get stiffer tires.

i’ll redo it in my driveway.

also, although the suspension feels great, it is causing a bit of havoc on the rest of the front suspension.

i had a small popping (sway bar end link) before, but now in reverse, going very slow, the drivers front is getting a tad ghey on me.

what areas of the front lower suspension are particulaly stressed by running coil overs?

…and holy hell am i low.

the camber is definately out in the rear, but up front with the spacers and teh adjustable camber it looks pretty good thus far.

but i am just running used tires out back so i dont care that much.

i will be replacing them every month and a half or so anyways
