# Dad is in the hospital

My Dad is in the hospital. He fell about 30 feet off a ladder while cutting tree branches yesterday. I just found out this morning, my uncle had called after I went to bed last night. So far they say he fractured one vertebra, T11. I plan on going to the hospital after my classes are over at 1:30 today, hopefully I will know more then.

This story made me cringe because my next door neighbor fell 25 out of a tree. That happened in late may or early June, and he only started walking on his own about 2 weeks ago. Shattered left shoulder, left hip, both hands, left arm (above elbow).

I talked to him a little bit ago. He did fracture T11 but it seems that everything else is ok aside from being swollen and very sore. He landed on top of the ladder when he fell. He is very lucky the chainsaw didn’t land on him. I’m going to the hospital this afternoon. Thanks to everyone who replied.

the chainsaw im sure would have hurt but it wouldnt have cut off any limbs or anything… most of the time as soon as you let go of the throttle they stop. does he do this for a living?
glad to hear everything is ok and hopefully he heals quickly. i fell one time from about 8’ and i know that hurt like hell… ever since then i wont climb a tree w/o a harness no matter the height
good luck to him with the healing and to you and your family with this situation, im sure it is very scary

From what Maggie told me he was up and walking around after the fall. She hasnt gotten back from the hospital, I am sure she might be over the house helping her gram and great uncle for a bit. Her dad was the one caring for them and stayed at home all the time. As much of an asshole as he can be he at least did that right.

He is able to walk, but it’s very painful. He fractured T11 and his shoulder is fucked up too. He can’t move his arm without a lot of pain. The doctor read his CT scan while I was there and said surgery won’t be necessary, just a brace. My Dad’s only reply to this was “Now I’ll look like a turtle at your wedding” :bowrofl: I think they are going to send him home soon considering there isn’t much to do for him other than the brace and pain meds.
My uncle is staying at the house to care for my gram and great uncle since my dad isn’t able to. My dad quit his job so he could care for them. I’m sure that won’t last long though, so I will prob be making lots of trips to Brownsville.
As for how this happened…He was up on a ladder cutting tree branches that were hanging on the garage roof. When he cut one branch, it somehow rolled down the roof and knocked the ladder over. He landed on top of the ladder when he fell. He has a safety harness but decided not to wear it because he was in a hurry. :nono: This all happened around 4pm and he tried to be a tough guy by not going to the hospital but finally caved in around 9pm when the pain was unbearable. Him having no health insurance doesn’t help either.
Our wedding is in 9 days and my dad says he’s not letting me down…Good thing Dom and I decided to walk down the aisle together :hahano:
