# Dangerous problem!!!!

ok, not too long ago, i noticed my engine was having trouble keeping up its rpms, even to 750rpm!! a few days after, and ever since then, when im driving and put the car to neutral, the rpm drops all the way and the car shuts off… lol, i would have to start the car when the car is rolling at high speed. even when im at a red light, it would shut off if i dont rev it. any idea what the problem could be or is it just a simple tune up with replacing the plugs, wires, etc? ive been told it could be the lifters (???).

i would guess a fuel delivery problem, maybe clogged up filter or bad fuel pump

this is a common problem.
could be many things like wires by your TB, intake manifold gasket, pugz ect.

could be the head gasket, loss of pressure… there’s a lot of p;ossibilities.
Run codes of the ECU see if anything comes up.

yes, it was the MAF sensor that came loose… its alllllll good now… thanks bro!

CHECK THE SENSOR FOR YOUR AIR INTAKE.

my dad’s 98 maxima has a simular problem, but it only does it on startup. Whenever I turn on the car it jumps to 1500RPM and then drops and turns off. I figured out a way of starting it, only reving it up a bit on start up. Usually happens on very cold days, but once it starts it runs perfect. Do you guys know whats wrong with this?

Did you car start surging at low speeds? Has fuel econemy gone for the sh\*\*s? If so check all of your vacuum lines. Most importantly check the vacuum line runnig to the EGR valve. These and the problem you described are simptoms of an EGR valve stuck open. If the hoses seem fine then remove your egr valve. If you have acces to a hand held vacuum pump then put the hose for the vacuum pump on the EGR vacuum inlet on the top. Use the vacuum pump to apply 18 inches of vacuum (457mm HG) and watch the diaphragm for movement while you are pumping. If the diaphrgm does not move it need to be replaced. If you can’t get a pump then just take the egr valve to your local shop and I am sure they will test it for you . If you see movement and the valve holds vacuum then it is fine and you should then have your engine’s vacuum tested. I hope this helps. Just another note If you have had your car E-tested and it was found to have high NOx(oxides of nitrogen) Then ther is a possability that you have a faulty EGR.
