I dont think cages are supposed to be used without helmets. Unless you plan on driving around with a helmet all the time. You increase the chance of bashing your head open on a steel bar.

Maybe, but 1/4 inch of foam around a solid steel bar isnt going to do much in a collision. Plus the rollcage will impede the functioning of the side airbags the car is equipped with. Plus it will impede extraction from the car if such a thing may happen.
I agree in some scenarios it may be safer. But in many others it may not.

meh, I think i would rather grind down some welds before selling a car rather then having giant holes in the floors and what not.

I looked into running the 3 points with these seats and they definitely don’t work correctly… I realize how unsafe my current setup is… (harnesses to rear seat belt bolts)
I can’t believe how much debate this sparked.
The halo on this car will be a good 6 inches above my head. The seats i have installed are about 2-3" lower than stock. This is the same as lifting up the roof of the car 2-3" to install the cage… There will be no chance of anyones head hitting the cage **provided they are buckled in**. However, I still plan on installing the foam.

It’s only 3/8 mounting hardware. I would just unbolt the cage and put the bolts back in their respective holes.

schroth makes a harness designed to goto the rear seat belt bolts…and keeps the proper angle so u dont compress ur spine

i don’t see why that is any safer than my setup… Still has the ability to compress your spine in a high speed forward colision… especially if your stock seats are shitty…

their used to be a better diagram of how u would mount it to the upper an lower seat belt anchors…and that black box where the straps attach would keep the proper angle under tension…
ps this shows the acceptable angles harnesses are allowed to be at

hell… padding is even required in FIA cages where helmets are being worn.
I personally would never even think of putting a bolt in cage in any car. The STi has a pretty complex ring construction that already functions as a type of rollcage in crashes, I am not sure if this cage would help or hurt you in an accident, but that uncertainty is what scares me away.
Most “harnesses” unless they are certified and PROPERLY installed/mounted, are not meant for anything more than holding you in place during an autocross.
I would think about running the 5-point system with the anti sub belt as well.
