just met a guy down here in florida that just moved from there and he says it is every bit as bad as they say it is and how great of a city it once was. Very sad indeed.

Drove through Detroit once (stayed in 'burb outside of it) and the roads/highways made our roads/highways look smooth as glass.

There are so many better examples of extremely left leaning cities gone wrong, like Buffalo for example.
With Detroit yes, their political choices have lead them the wrong way, but the fact that their entire economy was built around the domestic auto manufacturing market that fell apart has more do with where they are today than anything else.
But Detroit sucked long before the big three went bust and that you CAN trace to what he’s talking about.

I lived in Detroit (suburbs) for a year and laugh when people here complain about our road conditions. You are completely right, our roads are mint compared to Detroit and its surrounding suburbia.

I will watch it when I get home.
But I have enjoyed it here. But I will agree with horrible roads, no plowing and very high unemployment rate.
But 6% sales tax is better than 8.75%. Plus there is less snow, more professional sports to watch and a ton of old school money in the burbs.
But that is just comparing it to Buffalo which most would agree is not a destination place to live.

Who is blaming Obama? Those buildings didn’t fall apart in less than a year. Some of those look like they have been empty for a decade or more.

poor leadership decisions, cheap foreign labor, and unions are the reason Detroit failed. It has nothing to do with govt. being too big or the free market being over-regulated. The poor job of running the city is the result, not the cause.

I feel that with less govt. things might have been even worse… it’s hard to prove one way or the other, things would probably have gone down the same either way.
