This is the method that I am using for my basement walls as I do need to have power all around. I did some more finishing this weekend… I would take pics but they would look almost exactly the same ☹ This week, I hope to turn the lights and recess them a bit, and rewire them so my wires are not just stapled to the bottom of the joist’s. I would like to tear out the rest of the old ceiling remnants as well. There was a crappy fiber board tile type thing that made the whole basement smell damp. Possibly rework my cold air return and a couple of heating pipes so that they are closer to the center beam of the house. I’m removing the Cold air return from my Dormer as it is useless and sits in an exterior floor and wall. The dormer overhangs the outside and there was no insulation in the floors and VERY little in the walls. I already disconnected it in the basement. W/o it connected, I have at least 3’ of ductwork I can remove. It’s probably not the best thing to do as I’m sure that the cooling system was thoroughly reviewed before the furnace was replaced in the 80’s. ---

I have been researching, measurig and pricing out my basement. I will be doing Polystyrene foam, pressure treated bases, Vapor barrier and Insulation Batts. It is going to be very costly, but I will probably make that up in savings. ie. keeping my basement warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. ---

Did you price getting the whole thing spray foamed? I used the styrofoam stuff and great stuff where the joists meet the foundation. In some areas there was more than a 1/2" gap that I could see outside. ---

No I haven’t looked into that. I am sure that it is probably alot more than the the 4’x8’ boards that you can buy and use adhesive to put up. I’m actually looking for some help to see if any of the contractors on here know where the best place to buy it is. ---

cutting the 4x8 sheets into pieces small enough to get in the rafters then filling the gaps is very very time consuming. If you had someone spray insulation, you would save probably 20 hours. ---

Well that part already has insulation batts in it. What really sucks is that I have to rip out the stud walls that the previous owner did because they didn’t put any foam, vapor barrior or pressure treated bases in. ---

My basement is very dry. I spoke with my dad and he said I wouldn’t have to replace it. I wasn’t sure. If that’s that case, all I have to do is remove the framed studs away from the wall, adhere the foam boards to the basement wall, tape the seams and put the walls back in place. Correct me if I am wrong, but I won’t have to use vapor barrier if I use the extruded polystyrene foam behind the studs? I will use insulation batts between the studs and then drywall. ---

I hope to start painting this week. I still have some electrical to move. I also have decided to jeep the lights in favor of not spending more money… By new years, the goal is to have the ceiling painted walls up, and possibility painted. Then everyone can play on my “tables”. Foosball and air hockey currently being used to get crap off the floors. ---

I’ve only used it to paint the exterior of my old house so far. You can use it on just about anything as long as you use the right tip size. ---

I don’t recommend spraying the final coat. A roller gives a texture that helps hide imperfections. ---

I’m not going to paint walls with the sprayer. I bought the roller attachment for my walls. I will not be rolling the ceilings at all if I can avoid it.
