The article indicates that they crossed the unmarked Iran border while hiking in Iraq. Looks like it could have been a mistake. But I agree that they new the risks when they started off… It’s always someone elses fault… ---

I still say they were not “hikers” and were probably either smugglers or CIA/similar agency. ---
