# Do you have a jack and a spare tire in your car?

This just came up on the GTO forum and I was shocked at how many people take out their jack and spare on their daily driven cars to save a little weight. Lots of “well I have roadside assistance so if it goes flat I’ll just call them” excuses.
IMHO if you’re a man, get a flat anywhere other than somewhere really dangerous to change a tire like the skyway, and need to call roadside assistance you should immediately have your man card revoked. The tow truck operator should rip it up and give you a little purse to carry around your new maxipads.

actually, I have two sets of wheels/tires for both of my vehicles, and I go so far as to put one of the wheels from the other set for a full size spare in either vehicle. I also ditched the shitty stock jack from my ranger and have a 1.5ton jack from sears crammed behind the passenger seat.

My jack broke last year and I haven’t replaced it yet so yeah I’ll be calling roadside assistance. Turns out it wasn’t such a good idea to use an impact gun to raise the jack :(.

I find when your a car “guy” everyone expects you have jumper cables, jack, air compressior… so i do just keep that and a few other tools in the trunk, really with the Tdi there is no concern for saving a few ponds.

Have one, but also have AAA and Subaru Roadside assistance. Bit of a dilemma here…Should I call them and have them watch me change the tire?

Yep. Currently. When I had them M5 it didn’t come with one. But when I was going cross country I carried a lowpro jack and a spare wheel just in case.

I have both a jack, spare tire, and AAA but will still call AAA to fix my flat. I pay for the service so might as well use it.

A jack? Hell, my '68 has a full compliment of standard tools, spares, and fluids. Probably 60 lbs. worth of “junk” that’s saved my bacon once already. Oh, and AAA Platnium. 😉
My Evo and Chrysler both have jacks and spares.

Forgot about the option for cars that don’t have a jack or spare, just run flats or a can of tire goo and a compressor.

I agree with this, I pay for it so why not use it?
Also, I wouldn’t mind changing a tire on the weekend when I’m running some errands dressed like a slob or something, but I don’t wanna have to change my own tire on the side of the 290 during rush hour when I’m on my way to the office, NOT dressed like a slob.

i have nothing in the trunk of the cobra except for my battery, however in my cavi i have a full size spare and a real jack not that piece of shit they give you and a box of tools.

I hate those piece of shit jacks. Is it really practical to haul around a floor jack everywhere though?
