# Dodge Durango trans removal; need some help

So i’m helping my brother replace his transmission on his 99 durango. We’ve got most everything disconnected, but we cant figure out how to get the trans cross member past the torsion bars. We went so far as to try and remove the torsion bar, but it wont come out of the control arm.

Anyone have any useful input?

_EDIT_ Its an auto trans behind a 5.2L.

you need to remove the torsion bars and their crossmembers. I do not think 2wd trucks use torsion bars. Therefore needs to be 4wd

Right sorry, yes its 4wd. We tried removing one torsion bar, but it refuses to come out of the control arm. The crossmember where the torsion bars attach to the frame is welded to the frame so thats not coming off. Is there any special way the torsion bars come out of the control arms?
