shit it took one full interior 95 m3 nearly 800whp to break into the 9s :rofl

^^ yeah, i don’t get that one. :confused
more like they need traction to make all of that power useable.

It’s a ridiculous generalization. He isn’t talking about traction, I believe anyhow, but rather powerband. Also, I’ve seen 1.3 60’s out of full weight Supras. Not sure what this 500WHP is cutting for short times to make it need 200WHP less power unless something else is causing it or it’s bullshit/

It’s the way they put the power to the ground

In IRS, the rear axle is jointed so each wheel acts independently of each of the other, solid axle they’re on the same plane which is much better for going in a straight line as the power/torque/weight is distributed uniformly.

You are saying one thing and he is saying another. He is talking about 200WHP difference. You want me to believe that the short time of the Camaro is that much better resulting in a necessary 200WHP difference with the same result? I am sure plenty of Supras (as well as other cars) not properly setup will need more power to make up for it on the backend than others. The same can be said for the domestics. However, I’ve seen plenty of ridiculous short times out of imports.

A fantastic opinion article. :thumb :wow

> i know of not one single vtec honda motor other than maybe the “eco vtec” in the hx that makes more tq than hp…

The last gen 4 Cyl accords made more TQ than HP, and the EF Civics Dx’s made more tq than HP.

You guys have to keep in mind what HP is. It is the Effectiveness of TQ at any given RPM. 100TQ at 8000 RPM will make the same hp, as 200tq at 4000rpm.

> [@GranMassaX](#):
>
> hondas make no tq, we all know this, but to say all imports don’t is pretty foolish. Remember, the civic wasn’t made to be a performance car, so its pretty unfair to single that car out. Look at the modern Japanese sports cars… EVO/STi. Both put out about 300bhp/300tq.
>
> I’m tired of this turbo BS. Domestic fanbois always bash import (japanese) motors cause of the turbo and demand to only compare the engines with the turbo off… it’s doesn’t work that way. You take your 4 extra cylinders, I’ll take my turbo.

A 700hp import is as fast as a 500hp domestic for instances, just throwing that in there. I def have respect for imports, hell i have respect for any car thats fast, i just think that Timmay made is seem that domestics are somewhat behind in technology, in the past ten years gm has produced the fastest production corvette, camaro, and trans am. The ls version engines are amazing, and they are not old technology, the ls1 was the platform for a 650 hp zr1 engine. 3800 engines are awesome as well, i saw a 3800 series camaro in the 8s. I will say that our daily driver domestic such as an aveo, or a neon or something like that really hasnt done anything but our sports cars are improving every year.

I’m not making it seem domestics are behind on technology, they are. They get the job done with big push rod engines, granted they are getting decent power output, but not in relation to their size. The holy grail for domestic guys, the Z06 uses leaf springs in the suspension, its $70k car it should be more “modern” then that. For some reason a lot of people are not reading that I clearly stated several times that domestics are **the king of the quarter mile.** There is so much more to driving then going in a straight line, at least to me. Again, I have said that some of the modern domestic sports cars are capable of good lap times, though they still can not deliver the “feel of the road” that imports do, the subtle nuances that make driving fun to an astute driver.

Yes the 3800 is a great engine, shame the cars the attach them too aren’t. I’ve literally made millions fixing GMs, over the years they broke with greater frequency then any other make, I would not be retired today if it was not for GM. Don’t even think for a second your going to convince me otherwise that GMs are reliable and don’t break, I’m way to familiar with the weaknesses of all of them, inside and out.

Let’s be clear. Domestics aren’t the king of shit. Larger displacement motors are.

But US built cars are the king of displacement in passenger cars of the world…and motors based on domestic designs (top fuel, still pushrod afaik) are the king of 1/4 mile sooo domestic’s own the 1/4 mile, and they can keep it :idiots.

IMHO
this may have already been said but im goin to say it again

domestics are “behind the ‘8’ ball” when it comes to the technology for design, performance, safety, reliability, and value.

and imports seem to come out with more of the “first’s” and pioneering than domestics
per example: _ **SAAB** _-1969: Saab creates an ignition system near the gearbox, instead of behind the steering wheel like most cars(center ignition), 1970: Saab introduces a ‘world-first’ - headlamp wipers and washers, 1976: Saab was the first manufacturer to produce a turbo engine with wastegate to control boost, 1980: Saab introduces Automatic Performance Control (APC), and an anti-knock sensor that allowed higher fuel economy and the use of lower grade fuel without engine damage (a plus esp with today’s gas prices but i personally always run 93oct), 1985: Saab pioneers direct ignition, eliminating the distributor and spark plug wires, 1991: Saab is the first manufacturer to offer CFC-free air-conditioning, 1996: Saab introduces active head restraints (SAHR), which help minimize the risk of whiplash, 1997; Saab introduces Electronic Brake-force Distribution,
-WIKIPEDIA

and i know im obsessed with SAAB’s but
like a friend of mine says “drive now, saab(sob) later”
