# Driving in Flip-Flops

We were talking about this last night at Tea Leaf, most of us remember the Daddie / flip-flop / Audi event, and now this happens today outside of Albany:

Woman says her flip-flop got stuck under the pedal. 3 people died ☹
So do you drive wearing flip-flops?
I don’t in my car since the pedal is the hanging type and it could get stuck in the gap between the mat and the pedal. Looks like this:
But I have driven a few times in my truck since its pedal is on the floor so there isn’t any gap:

agreed. i dont even wear mandles. Sneakers all day every day.

Oh god. Here comes the anti-flip-flop debate from people who are too cool for it…
My Jeep is very easy to drive in flip flops and I’ve never had any oops moments or instances that made me feel otherwise. However, I have owned cars that made me feel unsafe doing it. In which case I would just kick them off and drive barefoot. Problem solved.

Can we include riding lawn mowers? I have mowed my lawn in flip flops. I never wear them in the summer except when going to the beach, had to work on my foot tan. 🙂

I wear mine driving the 6 speed GTO all the time. My shifts are a little slower but it’s never a safety issue. The same people that crash and blame footware most likely also swear their Toyota has unintended acceleration.

When you wear something on your feet (or anywhere for that matter) which is named after the annoying fucking noise it makes when you walk … but then you realize you’re making too much noise so you start to just slide your feet … you suck at life.
They should call them fapfapfapfaps.
I’ll go now and let you metros talk about your footwear in peace.

I had a sandal get stuck once. I left foot braked while I unstuck it. Pretty scary but I was in my civic so with 70hp I wasn’t going anywhere in a hurry.

i often drive in sandals. never had an issue but i’m sure it could happen.
driving barefoot is better 🙂

I tried driving in sandles before and it just didn’t feel safe. I can’t believe it is illegal to drive barefoot but legal to drive in flip flops.

some flipflops are floppier than others, driving stick in those sucks ass cause you can never get a firm grip on the clutch. auto is a different story and can be driven naked if needed
