Anyone heard of this as yet? Or have experience?
CoWorker is looking into building a HTPC / Fileserver and mentioned this to me.
Seems like a fairly easy & cheap fileserve solution for home.

we may be getting one at work. Its a great solution if you need an array that doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Its like RAID 5 only more potential because you can use any sized drive. Its only a matter of time before they start making their own arrays with this technology and scsi drives.

It would be a pretty low key setup. A few hundred gigs to store DVR’d stuff & music as I was told. Me thinks this would fit the bill as low upkeep multipurpose fileserver.

you buy the hdd seperately… but you can mix & match sizes & speeds, so long as they are 3.5" drives.
Using this Drobo & the price of drives now, you can have a TB for ~$200.

I’d read the reviews on newegg first though… seems that some people were a little let down by it (speed being the biggest downside)

I have read em, and it seems more of an access point concern… once your files are up your fine (it seems).

speed is not really our concern, we just need to move some data from some security cameras that the drives on the server aren’t really cutting it. Should handle everything perfectly.
And who the fuck buys one of thes for kids pictures?
