It is for traction for the tires in the snow…try driving a big truck like that in the snow filled with water its like a sled lol… But anyhow it is for the tires to get traction its a new and convienant way to do it with out putting on chains all the way around the tires which is a pain… ---

autochains. lift the toggle and flip the switch. rotating chains come down on an air driven rail. gives traction on snow and shit. their a bitch to ride on when your trying to slow down a 160k lb truck on the highway in snow. thank god for engine brakes 😃 ---

On a side not did anyone specify where in the hell there were hanging from? If they are in the center of the truck / ambulance and look like they are hanging from the tranny/block/pumpkin its for grounding. If there are 2 or 4 sets each at the wheels they are for autochains as specified. Fucking whackers. ---

They call them On-spots as well. They are leagnths of chain about 15" long mounted to a disc. The disc is mounted to a pivoting arm. When you hit the button the arm pivots out and down. Putting the chains on the ground and in front of the tire. I’m guessing the disc actually touches the tire so that it will keep rotating another chain under it. ---

so they dont go around the tire themselves they clear the snow away to get traction or something? ---

No, It actually lays down the chains infront of the tire. Pull over on the chains. Not sure if 100% hands free securement. On tractor trailers, it’s all done by hand and the very eager to drive in snow :rolleyes: ---

i understand the whole autochain… but why not fuckin bungee those bitches up in the summer thats fuckin rediculous annoying when the drive by my house chingin and changin… (its not for grounding… why dont tractor trailors need them or my flatbed or other big vehicles…) ---

The Owner Operators are the ones usually dumb enough to do it. Company drivers just call dispatch and say it’s too dangerous.
