Agreed. This one didn’t focus on cars as much, it was more of an action movie with a plot I felt.

Something tells me that video would have been a lot shorter @ the transit regal. Really surprised how long it took for the cops to show up.

If it were at the Galleria the cops would be there before it even started. haha I’m loving how there were a few Grand Prixs in there. But did one guy have a Genesis Coupe? Gag.

Series star Vin Diesel and producer Neal H. Moritz [have discussed their plans](http://screenrant.com/fast-and-the-furious-6-schrad-96156/) for a sixth _Fast and the Furious_ pic before – and now there are some additional details about the flick, which franchise staple writer Chris Morgan has already begun working on.

Universal chairman Adam Fogelson offered the following bit to _[Deadline](http://www.deadline.com/2011/04/fast-five-will-transition-franchise-from-street-racing-to-heist-action/#more-125552)_ in a recent interview:
“The question putting ‘Fast Five’ and ‘Fast Six’ together for us was: Can we take it out of being a pure car culture movie and into being a true action franchise in the spirit of those great heist films made 10 or 15 years ago?”
Early word on _Fast Five_ is that it does essentially transform the street car racing franchise into a heist series – like that of _Ocean’s Eleven_, albeit with more explosive vehicle chase sequences and shattering the laws of physics in general (not per se in a bad way, mind you).

Here is the logic behind that move, according to Fogelson:
“So if these movies were still about street racing, there was probably a ceiling on how many people would buy tickets. We wanted to see if we could raise it out of about racing and make car driving ability just a part of the movie, like those great chases in ‘The French Connection’, ‘The Bourne Identity’, ‘The Italian Job’.”
The _Fast and the Furious_ series has certainly been an unusual ride (couldn’t resist) so far. When the third entry in the franchise – _Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift_ - hit theaters in 2006, it didn’t reach the same levels of box office success as its predecessors (_especially_ in the U.S.) and seemed to indicate that these movies would soon be coming to an end. Skip ahead to 2009 when _Fast & Furious_ hit the scene, and suddenly the franchise appeared more popular than ever. Now there may even be[a new trilogy on the way](http://screenrant.com/vin-diesel-fast-five-interview-mikee-97781/).

![http://cdn.screenrant.com/wp-content/uploads/fast-five-dwanye-johnson-explosion.jpg](http://cdn.screenrant.com/wp-content/uploads/fast-five-dwanye-johnson-explosion.jpg)

While no one would argue that these movies are grand examples of cinematic artistry, they seem (to me) to be overall harmless bits of fun. They feature (by Hollywood’s standards) a surprisingly diverse cast that includes certain fan favorites like Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and now Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as well; not to mention that director Justin Lin’s [preference for using practical effects](http://screenrant.com/fast-five-interviews-justin-lin-mikee-98352/) instead of CGI has given the more recent _Fast_ films their own unique flavor.

Transitioning into the heist genre with the next _Fast and the Furious_ flick seems like a natural enough move for the franchise. If nothing else, I suppose it would encourage a _bit_ more originality on the part of studio heads – and in this age of reboots, remakes, and requels (read: rebooting prequels or sequels) that’s definitely something to covet.

Saw it Wednesday night and really enjoyed it. Just a good solid action flick. Best way I can describe it is it was like they asked Micheal Bay to mix F&F 1 with Oceans 11 and the Italian job.

I wouldn’t call it a good film, but it was a very fun, exciting movie. The physics of it were (as usual) impossible at times, but there was little rice, lots of very nice cars, and a decent story line.

Plus (not that you guys care) Vin Diesel and The Rock are nice eye candy.

It’s not going to win any Oscars or anything, but if you go into it looking for some explosions and comedy mixed in with car scenes it’s entertaining. Some people liked Tokyo Drift… and I’m willing to bet those people probably didn’t like this movie.

I liked Tokyo Drift. Better than 2F2F, ugh.

But yeah, F5 is probably the best of the franchise, simply because they took out the emphasis on making the storyline _about_ cars.

I thought that last one (4) was pretty rough. The dialogs and script seemed to “soap opera-y”

I thought Tokyo Drift was ok. I dunno how his dad had a gun though, there are virtually no guns in Japan.
