# FE Exam?

Has anyone taken this? What study materials did you use?

My boss has his books from the 80s that are probably mostly the same (besides FORTRAN programming, haha) that I could use, but he says he uses them the most for reference because they are so consolidated. So I don’t really mind buying something, but I do have a few shelves of textbooks that I know already.
Thoughts?
Now that I’m done with classes I want to start studying now and sign up for a March-ish test.

took the mechanical FE in Oct 2011, passed on the first time without taking a class or anything only by studying with this book.

dont remember super well but ethics and other fluff topics were easy points as long as you hit those chapters, imo run through the test and do the ones you’re confident on first then go pick up the scraps

Welp, I took the exam May 9th. Studied a bit for a month then it tapered off. About 2 weeks before the test I started skimming the sections and reading the practice questions.
Found out 3 days later that I passed!!
I’ve been expecting to get a letter or certificate in the mail but nothing has shown up.
How do you guys suggest I show on my resume that I’m now an “engineer in training”? (the resume is on my website in my signature below if you are interested)

yep, and the sample exam book that I listed in the OP.
I definitely didn’t study as much as I (thought I) should have. One of the nights the week before the exam I did one of the sample exams. Did it in 2.5 hours, skipped what I wasn’t sure of right away and got a 50 something.
For the exam I mostly had to guess on the thermo and systems questions, everything else I was sure I did ok on. I think it was like 4 or 5 on the first half and about 20 on the second half that I bookmarked to revisit and spend a little extra time on/guess (no penalty for wrong answers).

I put it right on the top under degree information.
Yeah, don’t have much longer to go. Not looking forward to studying for it. FYI I emailed the office of professions and full time work experience before passing the FE counts as qualifying experience if you have some

Yea definitely. I’ve spent the last 7 months designing and building a custom tensile test machine. Good to know. I have to get my boss to fill out and sign off on a form, right?

Thanks. I have a stack of material that was given to me but I think I’m going to get that book instead. I want to pass the FE before finishing this degree so I can skip the diagnostic exam at my school. Fortunately I have enough work experience that I can go for the PE first available date right after graduating.
