High mileage parts will certainly be more prone to failure, lets not be silly.

Your fuel system has a lot to do with it as well, take a beat ass stock fuel pump and tell it to pump enough fuel for a 250 shot and see what happens. Unfortunately thats what happens when a performance car becomes affordable…

Eh,

Pistons and rod’s don’t gradually wear. They either work perfectly or fail. Yes, ring lands crack, etc, but again that’s nothing to do with mileage.

I do not doubt this at all, and there are plenty of high mileage LS1 cars doing the same or better. I think there are some that have gone over 300k.

I see your point, however, a rod bearing failure due to partially or fully clogged oil passages will cause increased friction which can in turn cause rod failure when stressed.

that is totally different than a rod suddenly breaking because it has 300k on it, which is what the first implication, in fact, implied 🙂

Agreed, but any modern day OEM engine can turn 300K and have like-new oil passages, as long as the proper oil was used and was changed at the correct intervals.

Rod breakage was not included in my initial post. I was simply stating that a lot of the vehicles are now high mileage. Completely stock high mileage motor without add ons may run sub-par with half dead fuel system and not die. Add 250 shot, shake over ice, serve as broken mess.

Yes, they can. However, we are talking about affordable high mileage vehicles that have been owned by 12 people before making it to a teenage street racer with a spare 500 dollars for a NAWZ kit.

its just the beginning for these motors. this motor was suposeed to be a very efficient na factory motor. but i can tell you that with the heads it has, and with rods and pistons, this thing will astound people. but in na form, with boost id say low 6XXwhp is topps.
