I don’t think anyone has said they wanted the big 3 to fail. When i’m sure 100% of the people on here know someone that works for the big three.

We have huge contracts with all of them. It wouldn’t cost me my job in the short run, but my local office would probably go under in the long run.

Yeah… You are just stupid if you want any of the big three to go under… yet at the same time I wouldn’t buy American to save myself… I cant see a lot of other people wanting to save them in that nature either.

I knew a bunch of guys that got canned from American Axle. What would happen to the spare parts industry, dealerships, steel industry, Dupont, Goodyear, etc…?
How much is a 49.9 billion dollar loss to the government affect military contracts…? Everything is so integrated that it _seems_ like everything would be F’d. Not to mention the 3 million unemployment checks…that would not last long.

I think this is a wakeup call to the big 3… that re badging the SAME car 50 million times and adding “trim” packages is a dumb way to do business… not only that, but letting the auto unions hold your nuts because they can is also dumb… that and the lack of any sort of refined cars for a long time, led to the stigma that most American cars SUCK compared to their “imported” counter parts…
The big 3 need to retool, and figure this shit out…
and if one has to go under to scare the other 2 into doing things right, then so be it…

Id hate to agree with him but that is a good start… I think its clear at this point that nobody is going to win in the next few years in regards to the auto industry… I rather see this than all three go completely under.
The industry is paying wages and benefits based on a time when the industry was booming and obviously it is not booming anymore. They need to start somewhere and obviously making the right cars is not enough so now its time for plan B

When 50 people making 30$ an hour are building the parts and 50 more people making 30$ an hr are building the car. you get a 21,000$ cobalt that should cost 13,000$.

Doesn’t mean you can use bankruptcy loopholes to fuck people out of their health care and retirement they’re entitled to and cut their pay 80%…Actions like that just set off a race to the bottom.

Well thats true and I hope they can come to a more reasonable civilized way to make employee cuts. Simply put; paying people upwards of $35 to do shit a bum out of HS could do at this point in time, is just impossible if these companies are looking to be profitable…

Sad but true. You have to feel sorry for the poor guys who will get the shaft as a result, but that’s life. Shit loads of non-union people get laid off all the time and are forced to look elsewhere for work.
It’s either that, or bring the entire company down with them
