# front wheel drive question

if a front wheels drive car pulls to one side or the other when on the gas accelerating only is that a sign of a bad motor mount? if not then what would be some places to look for something needing replaced?

what kind of car? are you sure it’s not just torque steer? i know amanda’s audi used to pull HARD to one side on accelleration.

usually it’s caused because one axle is shorter than the other… so a differential is installed. people commonly think of this as tq steer, but it’s because the power takes the shortest path.
if it’s a noticable difference then a motor or tranny mount could be shot.

Is it pulling randomly from one side to the other? Or pulling to the same side everytime. Same side everytime might point to unequal half shaft leangth. It is a very likely that when one tire losses a little traction your car will pull very hard. Its kinda like when a drag car breaks a spool and the car comes right around. all propolsion off of one side will make the car unstable. We need more info.

my sho would pull a full lane to the left under hard acceleration and no hands on the steering wheel. It’s common for fwd cars. a motor mount usually makes some sort of noise and banging when hitting the gas, if it doesn’t do this, it’s probably just torque steer.

i’ve blown tranny mounts and have experienced violent shifting to the right on shift… but that was an auto tranny.
the question is, is this a new problem, or has the car always acted like this?

its my managers honda minivan. he said he doesnt drive it often but thy went somewhere and he felt it when merging/driving on the highway. i would imagine its normal, but he thinks there might be something wrong…ive never owned fwd so i dont really know, but all my moms cars did it slightly.

if he weighes like 400lbs and is the only one in the car, it could throw off the center of gravity of the car and cause a slight pull to the drivers side. :dunno:

honda uses a jack shaft, so wouldnt be unequal axle…
check tire pressure, brakes wear, and jack car up and “wiggle” the wheel to look for wheel bearing.
it is a honda, so i dobt anything mechanically has failed. more thna likely maintence issue, or lack of, showing it’s face.

that happend to me before, it was do to the bushings in the lower control arm going bad, im sure everone that has a honda had the happen before,

All hondas do not use Jack(Stub, or intermeiate) shaft. What kinda of honda is it?
