well, the msd works great on all motor, but for some reason when i went turbo it ended up messing with things, mostly my tach was jumping around, but when the engine was not turbo it worked like a champ.

Anyways, it is to give multiple spark up to like 6000rpm and then a stronger spark after that point, just to create a more efficient fuel burn which = more power.
