had to fix my garage door track today, and found the the gearing system within the motor side sheared the gears, so I am going to replace the whole unit. The one I have is a liftmaster 1/2 hp. Do the ones at sears have any problems and will it retrofit the one I have, seems like the internet searches have led me to believe it might. anyone ever use sears brand? ---

Ull need to use differnet openers for it,ur replacing the whole motor n track right? ---

I think the sears ones are re-branded liftmasters. Mechanically they are definately exactly the same as one of the major brands if its not liftmaster. ---

Im going to install, liftmaster any better?, ? would I have to change the track and chain setup, or should I just order a liftmaster online, pretty much are most compatablewith my model. ---

opener., the bracket split the to of the beem that its mounted to, so I took a piece of angle iron an drilled, and lagged it into place, tac’d the bracket to the iron, remounted the track, but the motor sounds jammed and I took the cover off and all the gears where shreded. I should be able to reuse the track and chain???right??? ---

Dude,do urself a favor n just get a new system,easier in the long run,easy to put up and please don’t get a 1890’s chain model. ---

Do not buy a Wayne-Dalton wall mount. Neat idea because it twists the torsion bar to open the door instead of a ceiling mounted track. But, never could get the damn thing to work right. But, then the door would not close all the way or stay closed or open right or anything. ---

A buddy has a garage door business, I helped him on & off for several years, go to Sears or Lowes & get an entire assembly. This will include a track, motor ect. All newer ones are about the same, remember to get yourself a single surge protector. Most, if not all, manufactures will not cover any electronic warranty claim if a surge protector wasn’t used. (ie struck by lightning) These are very common & very sensitive to electrical storms. Put it up yourself, very easy, not really worth paying to have it done. Mike ---

I have four from sears, I would buy them all again. Two have been in service since the late 80’s, the other two have been in service since around 2002. They all work as good as the day they were installed. We do, do a little Pm on the them about twice a year. Like grease the door tracks, and oiling the chain, and drive rails. Other than that nothing has been done to them since the day they were installed… ---
