Just curious is all but who is running what in what ? ka, sr etc…

87, 91, 93, 94 ?

Ive read on some more american based 240 boards that they only get 91 for the highest oct in the states? so how is 91 on SR ?

I usually put in 94 but when I’m lazy and dont want to find a sunoco I’ll put in $10 of 93.

SR’s are fine on 91 unless they are running crazy numbers. Thats all I put in my car.

I run 91 on my bone stock KA b/c that’s what the booklet tells me 😃

How it works:
Higher octane = resists pre detonation (aka harder to ignite)

Basically you should run the lowest octane that doesn’t cause knocking in your engine.

If you are bone stock you should run 87 (for a KA … don’t ask me about sr)
Advanced timing, cams, higher compression, turbo, etc etc = you’ll likely need/want a higher octane to prevent detonation.

But the point i’m trying to get across is that if you are not having problems with detonation buying more expensive fuel is just flushing your money down the toilet.

I run Petro Canada 91 every time not matter the price, I get a
min of 40+km to the tank using 91 as apose to 87. KA’s were
designed for 91 Octane. They automajically retard timing when
running under 91 octane hindering preformance and milage.

I run 87 and get almost 600 highway… about 450-500 city.

i hope everyone using 90+ octane is running some sort of forced induction, high compression or has a really old motor that knocks otherwise like someone said in previous post, waste of money.

Mr Jantos claims the motor backs off timing if you put lower octane but I didn’t think it was that advanced.

The way I understand it the engine runs normally … then if the knock sensor decides the engine is pinging then it severly retards the timing. Not butter.

Adam ?
