# Gates rips on Google's $100 computer

Saw this on [AOL.com](http://AOL.com) today. Google apparently is making a computer that cost $100 so that people in developing countries can have a computer. This computer has no OS or HD.

“If you are going to go have people share the computer, get a broadband connection and have somebody there who can help support the user, geez, get a decent computer where you can actually read the text and you’re not sitting there cranking the thing while you’re trying to type,” Gates said.

Wasn’t a similar idea conceptualized about 10 years ago where homeless were going to be given laptops to help get out of the situation they were in?

i think thats a great idea, computer \> cowpies… if thats what i think it is, the crank just tensions a spring and a spring runs a generator, ive seen this in a couple of radios and they run from 30-45 minutes on 2 minutes of cranking.
