# Getting a new computer on the network????

So I have my second dell 9200 since the first one was a pile.
I can’t get this thing on the internet. I already did all the autodetect crap, modem and router power down.
The old computer works fine, so I know its not the connection.
How can I get this thing to work?

go to properties of network connections, make sure you have mac bridge disabled.
Then right click the lan and click repair.

So the dell tech is here
He changed the mother board, and still not go.
could it be that my Internet provider is filtering the mac address? Thats what they dell guy said?
So it looks like the Dell is going back…

the isp only filters the mac addy of the cable modem, if u put a new pc on it, it should work without any issues. The only time you have to deal with mac addresses is when you actually get a new cable modem. At least thats what i had to do when i got my new modem.
Is it searching for an ip, or does it not recgonise it at all?
some more info would be helpful

thats probably exactly what it is (i was just having some major issues with that a few days ago)
ipconfig/all on the old comp to find it’s Mac/network addy
then on new PC, right click on the “Local area connection” under internet connections and goto properties
click “configure” then I believe “advanced” and then click on network address and enter your old mac addy and you should be good to go
or you could call your ISP and register the new mac with them

actually… are you going thru a router? Do the other PC’s have a connection?
if so, disreguard what I said above
I was having a PITA issue where I couldnt connect thru a router… only when directly connected. Turns out that TW didnt like the mac addy of the router, so I had to clone the mac addy of my NIC to the Router, then fake a MAC addy for the PC (it didnt seem to like using the same 2 mac addresses)

Mac addresses are filtered through the ISP steve, thats how they provision the modems.
believe me i had to go through hell to get the morons to make sure it was changed.
Check the router settings also, something might not be set correctly. Are both pcs on this router?, or are you taking the old one off completly?

yes other pcs do have connection, and it is through a router

is this a home network?, or something ar work. Check the firewall settings on the new pc, turn it off and see if it connects. MS firewall sucks balls anyways so i would leave it off and use the router.

hmmm… I wonder what the deal was then… like I said in the above post, I couldnt get it to connect without cloning the MAC of my original NIC… strange shit.

lol TW making u clone a mac addy, what a bunch of tards, you should never have to clone a mac addy like that. Cant wait for fios.

ok well try connecting direct, and leaving the router completly out. If it works then its a setting in the router that needs to be changed. I take it the network engineer at your work is not smart or something?

Thats odd. I have time warner, you do not have to fake any mac addresses.
I think the only mac they want to know is the mac on the modem itself.

i’d put money on it, its a time warner problem.
They are a company of fuckups.
Either someone doesn’t have something right at their end, or your modem took a shit.

well hes at work so im not sure who the isp is, if its a T, then most likely its AT&T, but either way, remove the pc from the router and connect it directly, that will tell u exactly where the problem is. Time warner needs nothing from him with a new pc, the only time they need anything is when you put a new modem in, adding just a new pc should be just connecting it and letting it find an ip.
but ur right i wouldent put it past TW to fuck this up.
