I did this the first time too - just completely slipped my mind.

They came at me with a $1000 fine unless I complied this time.

edit: oh well - 6 hours of paid work + a delicious downtown lunch and I’m set for 7 more years.

damnit… just got called

hope they pay well… from what I understand, my work covers nothing as far as pay goes (although I thought it was the law that they had to)

They will pay 40 bucks a day if your work doesn’t cover.

Also, it’s very easy to get off of jury duty if you don’t mind lying under oath.

I just got summoned for **Grand** Jury.

Is this any more difficult to get out of? I plan on playing the ‘this happened to a friend of mine’ card.

bah, I can’t live off of that ☹

I’ve heard trying to get out of it can screw you later on too (pulling the whole racist thing).

Oh well, hope they have public wifi down there

Not sure if it’s more difficult to get out of, just much more important that you DO get out of it. The average is 11 days and it could be up to 28.

My wife is set for life. Her degree is in forensic chemistry and she did her internship at the Erie County crime lab. Both times she’s been called they immediately dismissed her when they saw her background. Defense attorneys don’t like people who will decide the case based on evidence on juries. 🙂

You might get held in contempt, in which case your thrown into jail naked (then your really fucked). I like number 17, unless the lawyer is gay (then your really fucked again). Hopefully you’ll get a girl.

just had it for the last few days. It doesn’t matter what you wear, go comfortable since you’re going to be waiting around for what seems like eternity. From what I gather, they’re a lot less likely to excuse you these days than they did years ago so cliche excuses probably wont work.

Either get there early so you can jump on one of their POS computers, or bring a laptop since they have an open wifi network

> **[Jury nullification](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jury_nullification)**
>
> Jury nullification is a concept where members of a trial jury can vote a defendant not guilty if they do not support a government's law, do not believe it is constitutional or humane, or do not support a possible punishment for breaking a government's law. This may happen in both civil and criminal trials. In a criminal trial, a jury nullifies by acquitting a defendant, even though the members of the jury may believe that the defendant did the act the government considers illegal. This may occur ...

Basically, it means that you understand that the Jury has the ultimate say in the case and that they are allowed to let the defendant go free despite the amount of evidence against them if they feel it is unjust. Aka, if a man rapes and murders someone’s daughter, and the father of said girl in turn kills the man who did it. The jury has the power to nullify the laws stating that he should be accused of murder because of the circumstances under which he had committed said murder, and can say it is justifiable.
