# Good exhaust shop? Any hookups on here?

So i hit a bump on the 190 in the Hatch and lost part of the exhaust…immediately before the cat, looks like the exhaust pipe like got separated by 2 inches, and it’s all rusted through…
Looks like i’ll need like a 1 foot or so piece replaced…from the cat back it’s all new, and the only part damaged/missing is a small section that appears to be 1 piece…
i dont have any experience or the means to do any welding, and i dont feel like working out in the cold, so i’m looking for a good shop that can take care of it quick and cheap, i’m not worried about quality metal being used, as long as it lasts a year or two, because that’s more than the car probably has left in it.

if it’s a dseries i’ve got the stock exhaust manifold to the cat. all one piece, working h02s on there as well, $40 / b.o.

1991 dx hatch, 1.5
sure doesn’t look like it’s 1 piece, but i may be wrong…
i don’t have photoshop so i can’t point out the break, but it’s pretty clear…right before the cat, looks almost as if the two pipes like pulled away from each other…but i have no idea how they were held together in the first place…i dont think that it’s a pipe that just broke in 2, because either side of the break is a very different color… :gotme:

mines not really 1 piece, but the bolts are stripped so now it’s one piece. if the bolts that hold your exhaust on just fell off then buy new bolts, they go thru each flange.

Looking at the picture, they were welded together, and it is the cat that has cracked. It can be welded, but NYS says that a cat can not be repaired, if it were warmer out I would weld it for you.
EDIT: and the reason they are 2 different colors is because the carbon coming out of your exhaust leak has blackened the cat behind the leak.

what kind of welding would be used on something like that? Brazing? Mig? Tig? just curious…

you could probably grind it down to get to some decent metal to mig the crap out of it, it may not be pretty but it will be fine

I forgot you are a pro…I imagine in your world you could grind down 18 gauge rusty pipe. Once you are done grinding how much pipe do you think you will have left.

you could grind rustypipe as long as its just surface and not rot and easily mig it i just fabbed up a few pieces to connect the muffler on my beater

lol seeing that it’s clearly rusted right through to the point of falling apart…i think it’s safe to assume this is more than just surface rust that can be grinded away to give a clean surface for welding…

i’d be willing to be napa or advanced would have that part pretty cheap… unfortunately mine is from a 92-95 so it won’t work.

what part? you mean the whole cat section? i thought cats were cheap at all…
