7-Zip (open source archiver program)  
Irfanview (good lightweight picture editor)  
VLC (good non-Microsoft and non-Apple video player. Supports pretty much every format.)  
Winamp 2.95 (from [oldversions.com](http://oldversions.com))  
VideoReDo (trumps any other video editor I’ve tried for taking commercials out of HDTV broadcasts without changing the format or re-coding.)
