# Granite tile kitchen countertops?

This is mine after 12x12 granite tile and a flat black granite sink.
and some 15x15 granite tile
And here is the awesome laminate that was there before.lol
I especially ove how laminate starts to peel and gets scratches in it over time. then theres the discoloration from fading and food stains. and for the record we cook and prepare our cookies and stuff on a cutting board. kinda gross just using the counter top surface.
the key to using tile is to have smallest grout possible, i did 1/16 i believe.

This was my thought too. My mother/grandmother did a TON of baking as I was growing up and rolling things out was almost always done on a table, not a counter top just due to size.
As for how they look; I think that depends on the tile. The 4" tiles in a kitchen SUCK. As for doing what the OP is suggesting, IMO it can turn out either excellent, or shitty, all depends on the install.
I’m doing a tile counter in the bathroom I’m redoing and its turning out awesome, but it’s a small corner counter done with 12" tiles.

Modern laminates don’t do that. Come to think of it, the old laminate I replaced didn’t have that either.
But I guess we’ll just agree to disagree. You’re happy with your kitchen, I’d rather have a good laminate than a good tile countertop. To each their own.

Great, 50/50 on opinions haha. I agree a slab would be sweet, but like I said, the house value won’t get much over 60k even if it had granite and subzero/wolf kitchen lol. For reference here is what it looks like now, except the edge near the sink isn’t exposed. My two options are replace this for $200, or granite exactly like turbocivs for $500ish.

Edit: concrete tiles? The house is far from a modern style, is there a traditional concrete style?

I put lighting under the cabinets similar to what you got there and it looks super nice. Granite just shines realy nice.

My next house I’ll be spending more on, even if I don’t get it back. This house I’m keeping super neutral for the next buyer in a few years. I’m a glass tile, dark hardwood floor, colorful wall kinda guy haha.

For just $200 I’d save the money and just redo that. I’m guessing the floor is linoleum? I wonder if a nice shiny granite tile counter would make the linoleum look extra shitty?
Fix that outlet while you’re at it. Is that a junction box cover you cut a hole in? Oh and since you don’t have a window a mirror would go nicely above the sink. 🙂

and if there’s a room on the other side you could do a one way mirror so you can watch the game and keep and eye on the dishwasher.

If I were to do a counter it’d have to be a slab. Tile is better then laminate though.

Floor is a porcelain tile that I put in in 09 and idk wtf is up with that outlet. I’m pretty sure it’s either a junction box or maybe a ceiling light box that they put an outlet in. I’m doing a tile backsplash, so I’ll change to a gfci when I do that. Mirrors are tacky, and yeah Paulos right, the shitter is on the other side of that wall. The windows are to the left of the picture about 5ft.

It all depends on personal preference, its going to be a hit with some and make others cringe. Cleaning food, stains, etc out of grout is a PITA and people know that. I know they sell tiles in a 24-26" x 24-26" size which is standard counter depth…I would at least try to do that so you only have a limited number of seams. Also not sure if you have to seal those tiles like you do solid slabs…
With that being said, I \<3 slabs…lol. I have ~45sqft of solid quartz in my kitchen with an undermount quartz sink.

While I am not going to upgrade the house I am renting, this might be a decent upgrade for the bar I built.
Do you have to rent a tile saw to cut these?
