You’ll be hard pressed to find an engine problem/failure directly related to engine oil. Of course, everyone will ‘defend’ their brand of choice. I use Valvoline VR1 20W50 conventional. Why? Read the article, plus it’s readily available@4.50 a quart (no shipping charges etc).

I’m using Mobil 1 because that’s what the manufacturer recommends plus my Evo is very lightly modded.

The manufacturer recommending that is just all a marketing deal between the two manufactures. If it were mine, I’d have one of the oils that FP suggested in it. No need for a heavier weight though (VR1 10W30 would be my choice).

No problem. They also make it in a synthetic, but no reason to use a synthetic unless you’re going for extended drain intervals.

It’s just as good as any other SM/N rated (30 or under weight) oil. Just has reduced antiwear additives to meet ILSAC GL-4 specs (SFI thinks that increased antiwear additives hurts cat converters…BS)

we had our b-g rep come in with one of those timkin bearing testers that ya see on the late night infomercials . we tested a bunch of the popular oils and such . mobil 1 was worse than our drum conventional in all areas . the best conventional was the valvoline and cenpeco right along with the walmart supertech lol

Walmart oil does amazingly well… we used to send in our oil for analysis and it always was near the top.

he doesn’t NEED to change in all honesty, he still has the stock turbo which has the brass bearings unlike the FP turbos which have steel bearings.

Sure, but increased anti-wear additives are good for the entire engine IMO-not just certain turbo bearings.
