I believe that the green screen is selected and replaced after. The green is very uncommon which is why it used. They select the area, green, and fill it with the background or whatever they desire.
It’s like the photoshop select, fill thing.

really impressive stuff, i remember trying to do this shit back in highschool in our broadcast class, and you really start to appreciate all the fine-tuning that is involved in making it look professional, not an easy thing to pull off. of course those examples were all major studio works haha but still…

Not really about being uncommon but how well a computer can separate these specific colors against everything else:
