Im lookin to buy a set of HID’s but i dunno what to look for, i have a s14, and the headlights are completely bunk. I have seen so many different options, i just dont wanna buy some crappy ones that burn out in a few months. Not sure if P-Mall is the way to go or not please, any input would be greatly appreciated

here’s my input:
don’t do it.
simply dropping in an HID kit that uses a rebased D2S capsule into your stock headlight housing is stupid.
don’t do it.
use plastic polish to clean up your lenses and then install a high quality halogen bulb. hella, osram, narva… any of those will be excellent.
or of you really must have HID, spend the money and do a proper retrofit with the correct parts, ie. using OEM hid projector modules from another car (TSX, S2k, A4… whatever) and fitting them behind a clear lens.

No its because the reflections inside the housings blind the oncoming vehicles. A proper retrofit keeps a clean cut off.

no
HIDs actually run cooler than halogens. they are more efficient.
but the WAY they produce light is fundamentally different from a halogen bulb.
your stock headlights were designed to be used with an incandescent bulb only.
HID capsules require proper headlamp optics (optics that are specific to HID) to work correctly and to not blind the shit out of other people.
taking the factory HID projectors from another car and retrofitting them into your stock lamp assembly will provide the correct optics. but it takes some work.

They are not as sweet as you think. Silverstars, Nighthawkz, et el overload the filament to produce marginally better light output at the expense of bulb life. We are talking an average 6 month life expectancy here. You are looking at 60-75 1-2 a year to do your low beams. Oh, and to top it off, the light output declines gradually before blowing out. Is it really that sweet of a deal? Not IMO.
Zenki’s are horrendous for HID’s. Kouki’s would be ideal with seperate low and high beam projectors. It is the perfect base to work from really. You don’t lose your high beams like you would with most cars.
If you are going to drop the $$$$, might as well be for an HID setup.

You are almost always better off with a front clip anyway if you are swapping motors.

No, I am saying Zenki owners have horrendous lenses for HID’s because of the ridiculous amount of glare they produce with HID systems in them. It’s one massive reflective lense, unlike the kouki’s headlights. The Kouki’s obviously being better suited to an HID setup due to having two separate projectors. That is what I am saying. Don’t put words in my mouth, that isn’t cool.

You are grabbing at straws man with this straw man shit. He started talking about swapping motors in the future and I said that it is almost always better to buy a front clip anyway if swapping motors. I didn’t say, “buy a front clip instead of getting bulbs.” I wasn’t even implying buy a front clip to do a kouki conversion. I was implying that he should buy a front clip because it is the safer financial decision for the swap. I shouldn’t have to say that on SON. You gotta be trolling me. A good front clip has all of the shit a dude needs, that’s why I told him it is almost always the better option. I certainly didn’t say to do it for the reason you stated.
