Oh, well maybie for a blackberry, but wouldnt it still have a esn for at least the phone part that would cause some problems if you were to steal it and attempt to use it as a phone?

sim lock is different than the blackberry feature. the blackberry feature is designed to protect intellectual property

I understand this, obviously the phone should try and keep your stuff secure if it gets stolen, but im saying if the phone were to be stolen, and you tried to use it as your own phone, and remoed all the preious data…

Yes if the ESN is still linked to the other persons cell phone service, then the ESN won’t be useable anyways.

it only matters if its cdma, if its gsm the esn or equivilent doesnt really matter from what im told.
