# Has anyone ever made floormats?

I wanted to get some super JDM supermade floormats and BOLT them to the floor in my E30, but they’re:
A) super expensive
B) won’t fit
Any thoughts on
1. where I could buy carpet material
2. how I can hem the edge? I assume a normal sewing machine won’t cut it:
I’d probably get a better color, too…

Yeah. I was thinking that a carpet place could do it, but can they do contoured edges?. Or maybe some place like ATM restyle…?

The edge can simply be a piece of cotton ribbon folded over and sewn through… pretty easy to DIY if you can use a sewing machine…
If you want an embroidered edge, then you will need to take it somewhere… and its going to be expesnive… the edges for that stuff is done on a CNC embroiderer machine, which i imagine not many places have setup to do floor matt edging…
That being said… hardwood floors would be hilariously funny… but im not sure how much contour is in your floors to do it…

This sort of thing would not be possible with a regular sewing machine, you’d break the needle. You’d need a heavy duty sewing machine, or take it to a carpet store.

I used to have a whole bunch of CNC sewing machines at my last job.
None here yet. Sorry.
But I’ll second that you want to use a fabric overlay as opposed to stitching the entire edge. Go to a carpet/upholstery place. They’ll know more than the collective genius here 🙂

it would be a berber carpet… short cut obviously…
you would want it nylon, not cotton…
i think most floor mats are fire resistant as well, and also have a rubber back, but i don’t think you’ll get that in a custom made carpet

Maybe get some white carpet and get a vinyl checkerboard pattern cut and spray dye the carpet?

Talk to mosiers next to innovative. People come from around the world to have interiors done there. They made the cover for my boat. He will at least point you in the right direction and get you whatever weird ass material you want
