# Has this been happening to your clutches this winter??

well…on sunday when it was like minus two billion degrees outside my clutch froze up and felt like it started to stick like syrup…when i drove around a while it seemed to go back to normal but now the engagement is higher up than usual…i have to let the clutch up higher before it goes into gear…if this makes any sense to anyone and knows what could be the problem HELPPPPPPP please thanks!

is this the same thing as my clutch slipping? when i have to let the clutch up higher for it to engage? or is that something different…sorry im an idiot haha

It does seem to happen to S13s a lot.
But just to be sure, I’d check the slave line. When they start leaking, frozen clutches are common.

I just replaced my slave cyl., master cyl. & slave line…my clutch has had NO complaints at all, including yesterday’s nasty-coldness. I start each morning with gentle clutch engagements to be safe…
In which case, you may have a very small leak as mr200 stated.

It’s a hydraulic clutch and anything hydraulic starts to get thicker when it’s colder out.
My altima does it, my NX does it and my Silvia would do it if I was driving it.
It’s nothing to worry about if it goes back to normal once it’s heated up.
I’m sure the gear shifter feels “sludgy” too at first.

well today wasnt as cold out and my clutch was running perfect again…i guess it only happens when its cold out

You may want to change your clutch fluid(dot3). Brack fluid is hydroscopic which means it absorbes moisture, if your fluid is old and has alot of moisture in it it will become much thiker due to the water that was obsorbed freezing. Thats why DarkforceJackel has no problems. He just repaced his master and slave so he would have all new fluid in there which will not have the water content that older fluid would.

a manual tranny doesn’t use tranny fluid, that’s for auto.
5 spds use oil
“clutch fluid” is brake fluid.
