# Help: Can't get front lower control arm out

I’m trying to take my front lower control arm out and I took the bolts out
on the bushing end (the end that hooks up to the frame).
I took the cotter pin out and then took the nut out holding the balljoint to
the spindle. But after hammering for the last while, it stil hasn’t budged.
I used tonnes of liquid wrench, and it still hasn’t budged.
I tried to hack through one of the bushings and I cut it but it hasn’t come
out and I don’t want to totally take it out just yet.
If I can take the control arm out, I can get my dad to press out the old
bushing and put in the new one.
BTW, Thx Adam for the tips but it still hasn’t budged. ☹

Ok so your having a problem getting the ball joint out of the spindle? or the balljoint out of the control arm?
The spindle, just do as you are. perhpas heat it up with a propane torch, and wack it with a 5lbs mini-sledge.
the control arm, there is a snap ring at the bottom holding the ball joint in, a set of snap ring pliers or a screw driver and some patience will fix that. Then just beat on it.
I did a set yesterday, but i removed the spinde with it and put it in a vise, took 5 min with a 15lbs sledge. Don’t feel to bad if it’s good and stuck.
Sorry i can’t think of much other than heating it up and wacking at it.

Thanks for the comments guys. This post was pretty much out of
frustration but basically I just needed to hammer the hell out of it and I
was just not hammering it hard enough.
And yes I needed to drop the LCA from the spindle (not take the balljoint
out of the LCA).
Anywho this basically tells my little story (as brief as possible):

next time go to canadian tire and get a pickel fork they have them in there loan a toll program. A ball joint tool (pickel fork) cost around $20 which you pay when you pick up the to and then you get it back when you return the tool so they let you use it for free.

not if you do it with care an lubricate the boot first besides most people will replace the ball joint if they are taking it off the car so a ripped boot does not matter. And it is also better than having smashed threads form beeting with a hammer. Canadian tire also has a pittman arm puller which will also work for the ball joint in some cases, depending on the size.
