I am trying to find an e36 3 series. It will be used for track duty only so not looking for something mint. Though no rust please. Future plans are for bmwcca jp. I check bimmerforums, wantads. ebay, and craiglist all the time but nothing. Either over priced, 4 door, or auto. Seems to be alot of 4 doors. So… If anyone spots one for sale let me know so I can get it out for limerock oct 11th. ---

Lew - Dont avoid 4 doors. Believe it or not, the weight is the exact same and PTG used to say the torsional rigidity of the sedan was higher. You can also get them CHEAP in manual. ---

I check bimmerforums all the time. Really about the 4 door? I did not know that. I have seen a couple dirt cheap 4 door 325is. one for $1500 and has blown shocks (would buy your suspension). ---

What about the wheelbase between the 4 door and 2 door. Looks longer from pictures but could just be an illusion. ---

Srs about the 4 door. All of the chassis dimensions are the same. The differences are the hood, doors, corner lights, tail lights. The only pain in the ass is that most of them dont have fold down rear seats…but who cares? Quality 4 door chassis is prob the cheapest you can do. 325i chassis lets you run Spec 3 (NASA, only 325i’s, no coupes) if you wanted to, and you can still do Spec E36 (BMWCCA) or any E36 prepared class in BMW. Doooo it. 328 has some more motor, but swaps are cheap and easy and can be done later. ---

My ultimate goal is bmwcca JP but if i wanted to swap motor out to compete in IP. Would be building to the limit of rules with them. This is of course until I get my porsche lol. ---

You CAN compete in JP with an M50 (325), but the competitive motor is the M52 (328). You CAN compete in IP with an S50 (3.0 M3), but the competitive motor is the S52 (3.2 M3). 5-15whp makes all the difference. It’s prob the last place you should spend money, but worth a thought. I also wouldnt pass up a mint 325 chassis just because of the motor. Motor swaps are plug and play easy. No wiring shenanigans. ---

a 328 hmm… I wonder if my uncle would sell me his… I most likely won’t be in club racing until 2010, due to funds. I will just get a chasis and strip it out and slowly build it to JP, doing track days along the way. ---

Good choice. My friend sold his good condition 5spd 4 dr 325i before I could pick it up from him for $500!!! :idiots ---

You have got to look where the supply is high, and demand is low, capital region is going to be quite the opposite, the city however is perfect (NYC). 92 325s have the non-vanos M50 = dont buy. That’s why they’re cheap. All the other years are golden. ---

Well there goes my theory :tong I’ll look around, but using local craiglist is not too helpful, especially if you need something quick, you will need to travel. Easiest way is to find out all locations within a two hour driving range and setup a search for each one of those areas for the BMW. That’s how good deals are found. ---
