I need an iphone cable like this:
iphone to both -
- female headphone size line out (line level preferred, but not needed)
- USB or cigarette lighter
and I want it cheap.
anybody?
edit: like this, but with USB (not firewire)

If you find such a thing I’d be interested too. Right now in the car I run one cable from the headphone out to my line in on the stereo plus a 2nd cable from the dock connector to my cigarette lighter USB adapter for charging.
EDIT: I assume what you’re trying to do is get both the line out and the charging off the dock connector with one cable right?

I have the charger that goes from cigarette lighter to the Iphone/iPod connector. It complains that it isn’t compatible with the iPhone but still chargers it.
And do you want a standard 1/8" to 1/8" cable or the Iphone/iPod connector to 1/8" (which doesn’t make sense)

Not sure if that would work…looks like an iPhone/iPod connector to 2 angled 1/8" jacks and a USB

YES, you have the same exact problem as me. I just want to clean up all the wires in my car and simplify plugging my iphone in.
I hacked my stock BMW radio to have a line in instead of a tape player. Now when I hit “Tape” it uses a hardwired line-in that I added.

Yeah, probably if you search hard enough. That was the only result I got on ebay using search terms “iphone USB line in”. I’m guessing the same cable is probably on ebay with other sellers though, it’s just a matter of sifting through the mountain of results you get when you search for “iphone USB”.

I’m surprised that an analog signal (for the 3.5mm stereo connector) comes out of that bottom connector…
EDIT: Sure enough. Pins 3 & 4.

Ya check Monoprice or something. I have a quazi setup like this. I have this [http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/roadtrip-with-smartscan-2008](http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/roadtrip-with-smartscan-2008) and then out the bottom is a line out that can plug into my aux in on my car. Little more expensive but nice to hold the phone where I can touch it without it sliding all around my car.

this guy got back to me and says it’s exactly what I needed so I ordered one up.
the DAC in the iphone is surprisingly good, better than most car head units so analog out is ideal
