I just bought a Nuvi 350 a couple days ago. I’m not sure if the street pilot is a step up or not.

Garmin is definitely the way to go. The Nuvi 350 is awesome. I know a few people who have it and say nothing but good things about it.

[Buy.com](http://Buy.com) has it for $389 plus you get $15 off a purchase of $200 or more. So that takes it down to $375 w/ free shipping.

EDIT: I just looked at the C550. The Nuvi is the better of the two. The nuvi is like a flat panel monitor while the C550 is more like a CRT from a size standpoint.

I looked at some tom tom units and they don’t seem to respond very well to touches on the screen. The Garmin units have a very simplified approach and basically has 2 buttons to choose from to start you out when you take a trip. I have heard that Garmin uses a better mapping system than other companies. Not sure if the TomTom uses the same one though.

EDIT 2: The only thing I see that the C550 has is bluetooth. If you really want Bluetooth, which I don’t think is a big deal, then I would get a Nuvi 360.
