In the last day and a half, I have:

- disconnected all sensors (except one but that don’t matter)
- clutch slave is disconnected
- disconnected exhaust from hanger
- disconnected driveshaft from diff (its still connected at the tranny)
- disconnected starter motor
- taken off _all 9_ bolts from the transmission
- removed passenger side gusset (look it up in the FSM as to what this is)
- transmission x-member removed along wtih that bearing piece near the middle. Basically the shaft is hanging real low.

And in the last few hours I have been using a prybar/chisel and goin at it
like a mad man at trying to dislodge the tranny from the motor.

I’m sure it’s just stuck on the gasket and whatnot, or unless there is
something else I’m overlooking.

My tranny/motor is already sitting very low (it’s tilted pretty far back).

I dunno, I’m just gonna keep goin at it a few hours a day.

My x-mas break is:
24,25,26,27,30,31,1,2 (I work 28th and 29th of dec).

I hope someone can come give me a hand. I’d be more then happy to
repay with food/beer/money.

I have pretty much most of the tools for the job, minus an impact wrench
but I’m sure I won’t be needing that.

I know the tougher part is putting the f\*cker back in but right now my
priority is getting the bitch off.

It might be stupied to ask, but did you remove the transmission mount?

It seems that you got everything else covered, just remove the driveshaft completely so it wont be in the way, and pry the tranny a little harder because somtimes it’s just welded in there.
AND BE CAREFUL

^^^^ Yes I did. I re-edited my original post so others don’t get confused.

I’ll remove the shaft completely tomrorow and drain but I wonder how far
that will get me.

If you really need help, there are two always willing (i’m sure) workers who go by the forum names: S13GG (Darian) and Hector (Hector).

They helped Bruce with his tranny problems. You could try PMing them.

But seriously, if it has already slid out a bit and is hanging down a bit then, just grab’er and giggle and yank as much as possible. Careful when prying don’t hurt your bellhousing.

I was cold, tired, frustrated and that made me stupid. Hence why I was
trying to put a wedge between the tranny and trying to have it pop off.

Was talking to Ed (applesauce) bout it today and he told me what you said
adam. So yea I’ll try that tomorrow.

As for PMing those two guys. Well I think I will let everyone have their
space and time for the holidays, and then bug them later when I have a
few days off after.

BTW, Adam, I dunno what you did with my tranny drain plug since you
last changed it last Oct. but I can’t get that fucker off. :squint:
(I’m sure it wasn’t your fault. I gave 'er, but it won’t budge).

Thanks guys.

chris can do this for you no problem

the SR tranny is more difficult to put in and remove than the KA, but you do have to tilt it to free it up.

man, i did exactly what you did in august with my SR and i needed chris to help me with this part… it is so frustrating being under the car in your garage and not being able to get it.

i feel your pain, and chris can fix anything.

I would be willing to help, however I am far away and without vehicle. I would need some way of getting to you. Add me to your msn and we can talk about it. It seems I have a fair bit of free time over the holidays.

I am going to assume that it will pry about a half an inch all the way around, tightening up the gap on the opposite side you pry on, right?

What usually happens is you are trying to pull it out at an angle, some are worse than others. I like to put a jack under the tranny and adjust it’s angle, that or get under and manhandle it. When you pry on it use two pry bars on opposite sides of the bell housing too.

Seems to me like there might be some dirt/grime/rust issue in there and the input shaft won’t come out of the friction disk… possibly the reason it is slipping as discused earlier… one of the reason’s I prefer taking the whole engine out, when it goes properly it’s not big deal, as soon as there is an issue it is a big PITA.

I may as well just grab a hammer and pound at my fingers and toes.

Me freezing my ass off isn’t gonna make things easier. I’ll go at it when
the weather gets better. It will come off eventually.

i did my engine swap in a townhouse garage too, yo!

Get a strap wintch thingy, wrap it around your bellhousing then your differential, tighten that while prying on the bellhousing.

Little pointer for those of you that HAVE to work outside at some point… Get one of those 500w spotlights, they throw out some major radiation and will keep you quite warm, get a couple and you won’t even need gloves. I had to fix a car outside Sunday night -25 out (couldn’t get the car inside), one of those lights and my hands weren’t even remotley cold, no gloves. Another good tip is to put down carpet, a lot of it.
