# Help wanted: Impact wrench/air gun required

I need to take my flywheel bolts off. Those suckers are in there pretty
good and I hear an impact gun is the only way to go.
Anyone living locally wanna drop by for an hour or so to help me take it off? :fingersx:
I live in Brampton (Hurontario & Ray Lawson - major intersection is Hurontario & Steeles)
Alex said he would help but I am not sure if he is available this weekend
or the weekend after and I’m just somewhat anxious to get this thing
over and done with. And it would probablly save us time when it does
come time to putting the tranny back in.
But I just wondered if anyone was willing to help me for a couple hours
during the weekday.
I’ve relied on enough people for this swap and I can’t thank them enough. :grouphug:

That’s a real pickle. I know I can borrow a gun if I’d need it, but I doubt I could get away with the whole compressor. ☹

Put an appropriate bellhousing back in and wedge a prybar between it and a tooth on the flywheel, then just crack them lose with a breaker bar. Getting an inpact gun is a waste of time and effort if you don’t have one, especially since you shouldn’t be using it to put them back on. (torque wrench and red locktite)

Careful with the prybar on the flywheel tooth.
Another approach:
To hold the crank in place, put a socket on the crank pully bolt and have someone hold it in place. Then use a long breaker bar and losen those flywheel bolts.

Well I have Derek coming over to help me out (with his air tools).
Plus he needs something from me so it’ll be worth his trip I suppose.
If he doesn’t come I’ll try the manual approach. Just that the fly bolts
have a small/flat head and its easy for sockets to slip off it and round out.

Hey G what’s up.
Listen go to Canadian Tire and you can borrow a corded impact gun from them. It just plugs in to the wall and your ready to go. How it works is you put down what the total purchase price on it would be, including the tax, then when you return it you will get all your money back. If you have a credit card, or can use someone’s, I believe they just take an imprint as opposed to money down. Don’t quote me on that. Home Depot offer’s this tool lending program too so incase crappy does’nt offer the impact to borrow, try them instead.
Now I don’t think they offer the impact sockets so you may have to buy either one of those or just a regular, short, socket to use with the gun. The socket’s HAVE to be 1/2 inch ones to fit the impact gun.

I was aware of CT’s rent policy (it’s practically free), just wasn’t aware
that they rented out the impact gun. I think I will pick it up on my way
home tonight.

Why? I’m going to use the gun directly on the flywheel bolts. 😕

that won’t work
You will losen the crank pulley bolt.
How I always do it is jam up the flywheel using the teeth with my big flathead screw driver. The air tools I have arn’t strong enough to take it off. Gun sucks.

:lol: , well thank me only after you get the gun. I hope they do in fact offer you it. If not, buy it, use it and return it. Just tell them it won’t work for your purpoes’s and they will take it back with no question’s asked. That’s just another idea for you. It does’nt matter that it’s opened and that you used it. I know, I’ve done it before 😉 . :lol: Just give the gun a quick wipe off using some Windex and it’ll clean right up and repackage it. You just need to open the box carefully, keep all the bags, twist ties and cardboard.
Don’t forget there’s Home Depot too.

That’s why I said don’t thank me untill you actually get it. I don’t 100% know for sure. I would call them and Home Depot before taking a trip over.
If not, that’s why I said to buy it, use it and then return it. Hell you could have it back on the same day or at the very latest a couple days later. Either way it’s no big deal.
