ok here’s what i’ve been up to, i’ll let the cat out of the bag.

I built a 13.7:1 Ka, It runs on 94 and toluene. 11lbs flywheel, sohc pistons, ported head, molly rings, the best bearings i could buy, lightweight pullies, custom 3" exhuast, s&s headers, stainless valves, twin exhuast cams, msd coil, msd 6a to come soon, etc etc etc.

Now here’s the problem, it’ll “fire” but won’t start. timing is being a pain, any idea’s would be great…see you at the track next season…i hope your sr’s are healthy 😛

What kind of ignition do you have? You’ll need something pretty beefy to get a clean spark in at that compression.

Also, I’m relatively certain that 13.7:1 is over what 94 octane can handle. Say hello to leaded race fuel and goodbye to your cat and 100k sparkplugs 🙂

Matt, does this mean you’re not coming over today?

I thought you said it [b]runs[b\] on 94 and toluene? 8)

Try using more toluene.

yeah … race fuel only.

How did you calculate the CR? Is that really the true compression?

Hope you’ve got a really really good cooling system.

I run an 11.5:1 (true compression) in the Charger, and even at those levels pump gas is only Sunoco.

You likely need a gear reduction starter. Your factory starter isn’t strong enough to get the motor fired up.

I’d like to see more of the cat and less of the bag 😉

How did you get almost 14:1 with SOHC pistons? Hehehe … that would be a lot of milling.

Did you gap the spark plugs? If so how small did you go? Stock is 1-1.1mm /.40 IIRC. Maybe you need to make the gap smaller with all that pressure. Although I can’t say I can recommend a setting.

you’ll see the car at the track in the spring, it’s sleeping for a ;lil while

the plugs are gapped at .040" like stock, i think they’re fouled, oh well, just autolites…and the starter seems to have no trouble turning the motor over…but i think a big desil battery may be required to keep the juice flowing.

i have a friend who built a Hybrid B20 w/ b16a head motor, he set it up with 11.5:1 compression pistons and the stock starter could BARELY get it going.

I’m surprised you can turn it over at all!
Hooray for beefy nissans!
