Fuckeroo, we’re dropping like flies… im in the same boat, already have another chassis lined up but i am also thinking of taking the same route as Andrew and parting the current set up and buying one already done. totally agreed with the quitting is for pussies mentality ---

so buy it, take it all apart and put it all back together again maybe rip up some wires and break some boltss to make it more exciting ---

Whether he has built many or any cars has nothing to do with it. I haven’t built any, and would still not buy a pre-built car. How am I supposed to learn anything if it’s done to begin with? That and imo, building it is most of the fun anyway. ---

Well the chances of someone building a car the exact way you want it, are slim. So save the hassle and build up a car the way you want it. The only reason I bought a car with stuff done to it already is because most of the stuff were mods I would have done ANYWAY so there was no point in me paying retail when they were on the car. You don’t have to build lots of cars to know that doing your own mods is much more gratifying than buying one with stuff already done/having someone else do all your work. ---

buying a modified car does not mean that you cant change it or add to it, it just means you can skip the bases you’ve already covered and move on to the things that you would have done to your last car if you didnt have to do other shit first. so buying a modified car can be MORE learning than starting from scratch if you already did the start from scratch thing before. ---

Believe me…sooner of later “building” a car from the ground up looses it’s novelty. In my recent experience, I have had more luck in finding great platforms (already modded) in which to start a build and going from there. If you can find a car that has mods that are to your liking, you are probably going to save money (in the long run). This then leaves more money for more mods. At the end of the day, you end up with more car for your respective budget. (This statement assumes of course that $$$$$ is the only real limiting factor any one of us deals with) Now all this arguement about underwear… I agree to a certain extent. If you find a car in a “finished state” and leave it at that…you are guilty. If you are smart enough to find a deal and build off it…you’re a step ahead. ---

Like I said, if the mods done to the car already reflect what you wanted to do. Then go for it. I know personally, in Japan… buying a stock car is often a bit more expensive than buying a modified one just because you have the peace of mind of knowing it hasn’t been beat on AS much. I might end up importing a prepped shell FROM Japan, seeing as the work/parts is cheaper there than it is here. Or I may buy a shell and have it built up in Japan where everything is cheaper, and ship it when it’s finished. So I guess in the end it all depends what you are buying the car FOR. Buying a modified car just because it is modified and you are lazy… isn’t cool. But if you are buying a car with say… coilovers already installed, and they are the same ones (or better) that you already planned on using, then it is just one less thing you have to worry about doing yourself. If you are a big fan of doing your own work, then it’s better to start from scratch and build that “bond” with the car. But if you don’t have the knowledge or resources to build your own car, then there is no difference between buying a modified car, and buying a stock one and getting a shop to do all the work. You still don’t learn a thing by having someone else do it for you. ---
