# how hard is it changing Subaru 2.5RS auto to a manual?

i really want a 2 door subaru 2.5 RS with a manual tranny to play with and make my DD, but all i keep finding are automatics. so how hard is it to change a subaru from auto to a manual? has anyone tried this? or is it too much of a pain? all i’ve done this on are Camaros. thanks

its not that hard just takes more time than a rwd car because u have 4 axles

Short of that, it’s been done but there is a lot more nickel and dime related stuff. In comparison to a FWD/RWD to manual swap.

Not Cost effective. Your final drive for auto i believe is 4.44, rear end gears are are different in a 5 speed so they will not mesh.

how is spending 5k on a new car with a manual trans more cost effective than doing a 5spd swap?? just do it if the car is worth it. u might even be able to find a whole car that is wrecked or has a blown engine for 5-6 hundo. then u will have every little peice u need to do the conversion

This isn’t a 240sx. Parts are just a wee bit more costly, and from the sounds of it he doesn’t have one yet.

If he buys the 5k manual car, he can likely sell his automatic car for a similar price and end up only spending a few hundred to get a 5 speed.

What are you all talking about? He doesn’t have an automatic or manual one yet. He wants a manual one. WHy buy an auto, buy a wrecked manual, and swap it when he can buy one that was manual from the factory??
