# How to find out if the Timing belt and water pump were really done.

Looking at buying a used honda accord and im told the TB and WP were taken care of. I asked if they have paperwork showing this and they said no but can get it.
Now ive seen mechanics make up fake recietes in the past…
Is there a way to check to see if the TB and WP were really done without tearing apart someones engine bay?

if you pull off the valve cover, you could get a good idea of how old the timing belt is by seeing if the writing on the belt is still there and if so, how new looking is it. You could also see if it’s oem/parts store aftermarket. As for the water pump…same thing, just a visual inspection without pulling shit apart but you’ll need a boroscope to get a good glimpse.

an old timing belt will show wear… a newer one not so much

besides the writing on the belt, look inner side to see if there are any cracking marks.

it is always best to change it yourself to be sure, unless you like dealing with the consequences. typically the peace of mind is worth it.

Yea, I figured the only way would be taking the valve cover off. I doubt someone would let me do this to their car.
True, peace of mind is always worth it.
Ive dont the TB and WP on my 94 civic Ex and it was straight forward but getting the crankbolt off SUCKED!
Anyone know if its easy or not on a 99 accord LX
