# how to get a temporary plate?

been going through the dmv site for a while and absolutely cannot find the steps…anyone know???
edit: for transport of a new car that is…
edit2: car will be driven from wisconsin…do i have to get the plate from the WI dmv or do i get it in NY?

you need to get the temp plate and/or transport papers from the state in which you buy the car, in this case WI

youll have to get it from the wisconson dmv
i dont beleive NYS has the paper “transport” license plates, everything they issue is a permanant steel plate, including the transporter plate (ive seen a few)
you must be a registered trasporter to get the transporter plates

He’s right Sean. When I got my Talon I went to the Ohio DMV and got the temp tag there. Only cost a few bucks. Just make sure you get the VIN # and put insurance on it before you leave NY.

ya you need proof of insurance and the title proving you own it.
