Or any other shifter that comes as complete assembly, not just the shifter stick or whatever… Anyway, everything here is very straight forward, but there are 2 bolts holinding the assembly quite far and it’s almost impossible to reach. The best way to get to them is from underneath the car with a gear wrench. (12mm) On my car, i also had to drop the cross member in order to get one of the bolts out… but otherwise, very simple, but time consuming install (30min to an hour) B&M Shifter Review: The complaints about the noise are true. It is quite noisy, but it’s not annoying or anything. The shifting is incredible though, it retains stock height (which i don’t find to be necessarily a good thing) but the throw is very very short, it’s impossible to mis-shift from 2nd to 3d, because it just pops right into place. And i have not noticed any problems with it what so ever. It even comes with a b&m shift knob, which i need to sell now 🙂 i recommend it, even though it’s quite expensive, it’s a very solid unit. ---

How much? I just looked at one for my 200sx, and it was like $400 ---

noise… it’s hard to explain, sort of raddling noise… almost like something is grinding (but that was everyone’s complaint when they would buy it) and i bought it from PDM, they had a very good special on it (look at [pdm-racing.com](http://pdm-racing.com) for more details) -Pavel ---

Ya the OBX shifter makes that noise when the boolts rattle loose and the shifter raises a bit. ---

put it this way, the tranny vibrates and there are no soft bushings in the B&M shifter to take away that vibration, in fact the precision made parts absorb that vibration and make noise… (if anything that i just said makes sense, then i’m glad cuz i can’t think right now) ---

its because its just pushing the dogg teeth against the gears more than the stock one did. ---

I just put in an order through PDM-Racing for a B&M Shifter. B&M used the S14 as the guinea pig in that instruction PDF. Look at the dash layout. W00t, sent my order and payment in for the shifter…yay for me. :ugh2: ---

Welp, I just got from installing my B&M. Only problem is, I still have trouble getting the 5th and 6th bolts in (the ones up front). I managed to get the 5th in half way but no rooms to screwing it in. And the 6th I just didn’t put it in. I wil have to wait till nicer weather to try again. I have the obx short shifter installed in my car (ive recently purchased Adams car… ps LOVE IT) anyways i get alot of that grinding type noise and i understand that its normal with the short shifter cause of tranny vibrations etc… I was just wondering if it is hurting my tranny at all by making those noises. It shifts perfect into every gear never pops out and is stif and i love it , but that noise just makes me nervous. platinum240sx ---

Never dealt with OBX’s, but i remember going over quite a few threads dealing with those noises coming from OBX shifters (i think there is a way to fix them too) You might want to search… ---

The OBX is merely a shifter handle replacement that provides shorter throws because of the pivot point. The fix that I believe most are talking about, is the small plastic/rubber piece that’s at the bottom of the handle. I believe that’s the piece and you can probally get one from a local Nissan dealer. ---

Your synchros will line up with no problem. Its all down to how you drive. However quick switches are hard on the synchros.
