# How to make your SR pass emissions.

Hi,
Ok for starters, make sure your car is in good working order. Things like old spark plugs, vacuum leaks, crappy oil, and crappy gas probably arn’t going to help you.
Catalytic Converter =\> make sure you have one, a good one. not the 13 year old one that was used with the KA, chances are its plugged.
The AIV=\> hook it up, its really not that hard. I ran a pipe down beside the inner fender and the frame rail and had it welded into my down pipe. At the top, there is a 90 degree rubber hose connected to the AVI unit. Make sure the AVI has manifold vacuum. This is controlled by the little solenoid that is usually attached to the ignitor. it has a black plastic cap and green hose fittings.
Also, some catalytic converters come with “breathers” built into them, all you have to do is attach the tube there.
That should do it, ill try and get some pics when i put my car back together. and if i come accross something i have missed when i install the motor again, ill be sure to post it up.

I think he means AIV…
SR should have no problem passing emissions provided the motor is
running well and all emissions equipment is working. Japanese emission
laws are just as strict as here.

Just like you are bending over to talk?
I did it, all the mechanic needs is for you to show them something. ie, the spark plug cover saying intercooler turbo, i used the DOHC, my car being a 90.
Then id like for you to find on the sheet where it says hotrod status … because i couldnt find it, not even a code that could represent it. It had all the 240sx info. And then show me when insurance is even going to see this sheet? its for your plates.
Like “guest” said, if you make a claim they aren’t going to check your e-test certificate, they’ll appraise the damages, ie pop the hood, then you have some 'splaining to do.

My bad I guess.
I thought getting your car tested as a hot rod meant your car had to be registered as a hot rod.
Now drive clean makes less sense to me then ever. So if you have trouble passing emissions … just make some changes that are even worse for the environment and then they’ll let you pass with less stringent standards? And it won’t affect anything else ?
I wasn’t talking outta my ass I’m talking out of common sense.
But I guess drive clean transcends common sense.

They best thing to do is to let the insurance company know anyways. Just tell them you changed the motor, rates shouldnt change very much.
I got hit innocently and I am on the brink of loosing all of my money invested because of this. They were only going to give me the money for a regular 89 240, but i said hell no and faught it. They then voided my policy and dropped me on my ass with nothing. Im still fighting, so wish me luck. Would have been so much easier to just let them know.
All i can say is that if you are putting money into your car, pay a few extra bucks a month, get a rider for your shit, so that if ANYTHING happens, you got your ass covered. Just a little piece of advice.

I agree with what Matt says and feel his pain.
Only thing is be prepared to look for another company since 90% of companies may drop you for having any type of mod.

You might be able to get your car apraised for its value and then insure it, under regular insurance or something like showcar insurance. I knew someone who put lots of money into a truck so he got it apraised and insured it differently for all the mods he put into it.
