# How to remove HICAS

This is the how to remove HICAS as many people have asked for it.
There are two ways, one is with a non-HICAS power steering pump and the other is to just cap off the lines with the supplied fittings.
Here are the basic steps. If you are using a non-HICAS pump.
1. buy a HICAS emiminator

2. Jack up car
3. on the rear rack there are TWO 17 or 19mm bolts that go thru the subframe. Remove them and the inner tie rods from the rack.
4. PUT A BIG bucket under the rack when you remove the fittings (4 litre’s came out of mine easy)
5. bend lines out of the way.
6. instal is the opposite of reverse.
I highly recomend new tie rods, you can only get them thru Nissan and will cost you 400 for inner, out and the ball joint in the rear spindle.
Also most people remove the lines from the car as they are kinda heavy.
On the passenger side frame rail remove the HICAS solenoid

It is heavy and ways a TON. Disconect the electrical connectors and either plug in harness (tomei kit, stops light from comming on) or cut off at main harness.
Remove the lines that run by the steering rack and up to the BACK of the pump.

Using the supplied caps plug the outlet

If you are using a NON-HICAS pump you will have to cap off one line on your resevoir.

I used JB weld with a vacuum cap.
Attach everything back up and tighten the plug AGAIN.
Enjoy your non\_HICAS car.
If anybody has anything add please feel free. I think it was close to 30 KG that came out. I weighed it but i forget exactly.

Hmmm, I wonder what kind of difference it would make if I removed the shit from the rear end of the car. I have a non-hicas pump, non-hicas fluid reservior, and all those lines are removed up front. The only thing not removed is the rack in the rear. Think this would affect much? I’m far too lazy to rip that all off. lol.
Only thing is, that my HICAS light always come on on the dash.

I wonder if that big heavy bastard HICAS solenoid can come out with the engine in place? Maybe pull the alternator?

I have no idea man.
My engine was out but it does weigh alot. Also makes the car look alot cleaner becasue the frame rail can be seen instead of a big mess of lines.

How many bolts on that big POS?

From what I can remember, there’s about 3 or 4 bolts holding the HICAS solenoid in.

I just noticed this thread, and yes, you can remove all of the hicas stuff with the motor in place. I did it, also, if you dont want to buy a new PS pump just take the back cover off the PS pump and remove the rear fins on it, then just put it back together and cap off the rear part of it where the line connects.

alright so i just bought a 240 and its got hicas on it. I was wondering is the hicas only on when the light on the interior is on? or is it on at all times?

If a guy wanted to auto cross with his car and not drift wouldn’t keeping the hicas Be a good idea? can someone with knowledge please shed some light on the pro’s and con’s of hicas!
